Methodius.
In March 1984, the Community was blessed to purchase the current Church building at 113 Ruckholt Road, Leyton E10 5NT which previously had belonged to the Anglican Church of St. Luke. The opening of the new Church was held on the 28th of April 1985 officiated by the late Arch. Methodius and the consecration was by His Eminence Gregorios the late Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain.
In 1984, our community acquired its first property, the house (111) next to the Church and a few years later, in 1993, we also acquired the house at 109, so the Community currently owns a single complex of houses from 109 to 111. The Community also has its own Greek School which functions in owned premises behind the Church in specially designed classrooms attached to the Community’s central hall. All classes operate successfully up to GCSE and A level and students that have studied in our school have graduated from or currently study in the country’s top universities. Our school is also a certified exam centre for GCSE.
We are particularly proud of the Community’s school and we strive to ensure that our children are nurtured with values stemming from our Orthodox faith and culture. Our pupils are taught to have a positive attitude towards the multi-ethnic society of Britain and to be proud and conscientious members serving the community. We truly value the work carried out by our staff, committee members and parents, who all play an important role in maintaining our school to a high standard. We encourage all parents within the surrounding area that have Greek, Cypriot or multi-national heritage to consider bringing their children to our school.
